Football Face-off: Skyhawks vs. Hurricanes
This past Friday night, Hammond’s varsity football team took on the First Baptist Hurricanes in a matchup between the top two football programs in SCISA. The Hurricanes came to Columbia with a 5-0 record, and they were looking for revenge after falling to Hammond twice last season, once in the state championship game.
With South Carolina and Georgia head coaches, Will Muschamp and Kirby Smart, in attendance, four star South Carolina commit, Alex Huntley, and uncommitted five star recruit, Jordan Burch, put on a show. Huntley recorded multiple tackles for loss and 2 sacks. Burch threw for a touchdown along with receiving a 47 yard touchdown pass.
Other seniors also performed well. Andre Wilson returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown and 3 minutes later ran in another touchdown to make it a 14-0 game. Quarterback Jackson Muschamp accounted for 5 touchdowns, throwing 4 and rushing for 1.
The Skyhawks dominated on defense, not allowing the Hurricanes to score a point the entire first half. Hammond went on to win 55-7, improving their record to 4-2 for the season. They will travel to Augusta this Friday, October 4, to face off against Augusta Christian. The game is set to kickoff at 7:30pm and can be heard on Hammond.tv.
